Presentation description
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death in children. There is a need for therapies that can modulate the immune response to lessen damage because of secondary injury cascades. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been proposed as a potential therapy for TBI. However, most experiments have utilized male animals in their design. This study seeks to determine if female rat pups will respond as strongly to DHA treatment as male pups have been shown to, looking at day one post-injury.
