pH Effects on the Electrosynthesis of Biomass Derived Furanic Compounds using Redox Mediators

Semester: Fall 2023

Presentation description

Sustainable resources such as biomass have shown promise as a versatile feedstock and alternative for chemicals and energy derived from petroleum. FDCA is a precursor for polymeric materials including polyethylene furandicarboxylate (PEF), a bio-based alternative to petroleum-derived polyethylene terephthalate (PET). We were successfully able to electrosynthesize FDCA from BHMF using analytical techniques and explore the importance of pH dependency for this conversion.
