Role of Epididymis in the Recognition and Elimination of Non-Viable Spermatozoa

Semester: Fall 2023

Presentation description

Our study identifies a novel epididymal protective mechanism, where proteins FGL1 and FGL2 discern viable from nonviable sperm. We purified FGL2 and confirmed its serine protease activity and its binding to specific carbohydrates, suggesting a role in maintaining sperm viability and offering insights for potential fertility treatments.
